Daksham Capital secures Rs 125 crore first close for maiden consumer fund

Multi-family office and private wealth management group Daksham Capital has secured a Rs 125 crore first close for its maiden consumer-focused vehicle, Daksham Growth Ventures Fund I.

The fund carries a base target corpus of Rs 150 crore alongside a Rs 150 crore greenshoe option, creating a total potential fund size of Rs 300 crore. High-net-worth individuals, ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and entrepreneurs anchored the first close shortly after the entity received registration as a Category II Alternative Investment Fund from the Securities and Exchange Board of India in October 2026.

Led by cofounder and managing partner Shivam Diwan, Daksham Growth Ventures (DGV) plans to back 10 to 15 companies with cheques ranging between Rs 5 crore and Rs 20 crore. The platform will concentrate on Pre-Series A and Series A funding rounds, while keeping open the option for select late-stage secondary investments in businesses two to three years away from an initial public offering.

Focus on unit economics over burn

DGV is targeting startups with an annual recurring revenue between Rs 25 crore and Rs 75 crore that demonstrate the potential to expand to an annual revenue of Rs 300 crore to Rs 500 crore.

The firm intends to avoid early demand-testing risks, requiring portfolio companies to have established product-market fit before investing.

"We will only come where the product-market-fit risk is established," Diwan told reporters. "Growth by burning an enormous amount of money is not the mantra. It should be a capital-efficient business."

While candidate companies do not need to be profitable at the EBITDA level when DGV invests, the fund requires positive or neutral contribution margins.

Allocation across D2C and consumer enablers

Direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands will represent 50% to 70% of the fund's deployments. Targeted categories include food and beverages, apparel, snacking, beauty, personal care, accessories, jewellery, and bags.

The remaining capital will be allocated to consumer enablers, such as contract manufacturers, sourcing and supply chain providers, B2B2C platforms, and companies integrating artificial intelligence into consumer operations.

Diwan noted that consumer enablers provide diversified exposure across multiple brands, reducing reliance on the performance of a single consumer storefront. The fund also expects consumer AI applications to gain momentum over the next 12 to 24 months, particularly in product discovery, personalisation, acquisition, and order fulfilment.

DGV has not completed any investments to date, though it is currently reviewing opportunities across food and beverages, accessories, and B2B2C platforms.

Beyond capital, the platform plans to provide portfolio founders with board-level direction, corporate governance oversight, financial reporting structures, brand positioning support, and distribution network access.

Parent entity Daksham Capital operates across family office advisory, global investing, investment banking advisory, legacy planning, and structured lending solutions. The group's team has previously advised more than 600 client families and managed over $1 billion in assets.

Why it matters

For early-stage consumer founders, DGV provides dedicated capital tailored for capital-efficient growth rather than hyper-scalability funded by heavy cash burn. The fund's mandate to back consumer enablers and contract manufacturers alongside direct-to-consumer brands offers an institutional funding route for B2B supply chain partners that power consumer platforms.

For institutional investors, the launch reflects continued interest in India's consumer ecosystem from family offices seeking structured exposure through specialized Alternative Investment Funds.
