Mochatrade has begun rolling out access to its global derivatives trading platform, with 25,000 people on its waitlist, as Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Parth Maheshwari highlighted the opportunity to bring global markets to Indian traders at India Blockchain Week (IBW).

Mochatrade is building its platform for Indians who already trade domestic derivatives and follow companies such as Nvidia, Tesla, Apple and Microsoft. Users can fund through UPI, deposit and withdraw rupees, and track margin and profit or loss in rupees. The platform uses perpetual futures linked to US stock and other global assets.

These contracts let traders take positions on prices rising or falling without owning the underlying shares. They have no fixed expiry, but positions remain subject to margin requirements, funding payments and liquidation risk. Mochatrade’s business model is based on trading fees.

“For me, the next big opportunity isn’t necessarily convincing more Indians to become traders. It’s opening up more of the world’s markets to the traders who are already here,” Maheshwari said.

The company also hosted an event during IBW where attendees used its platform to place trades. Its 25,000-person waitlist reflects interest in the product as access rolls out to users.

Maheshwari was speaking on the panel “Futures, Perps and the Indian Trader: How Regulated Crypto Derivatives Work in India?” at Fairmont Mumbai.

Alongside trading access, Mochatrade is developing Mochalearn, its learning platform for Indian traders entering US markets. It offers free video lessons, notes and quizzes on market fundamentals and the economic developments that move prices. Further modules are planned on trading instruments, risk management, position sizing and practice trading.

Maheshwari said traders moving from Indian options to global perpetual futures need to understand both a different instrument and a broader set of market drivers, including US earnings, Federal Reserve decisions and geopolitical developments. Trading fees, funding costs, spreads and liquidity also affect the outcome of a position.

“The goal shouldn’t just be to give Indian traders access to more markets. It should be to help them understand those markets well enough to make informed decisions,” he said.

He also highlighted the need to understand prices outside US exchange hours. When the underlying stock market is closed, perpetual contract prices can move independently of the last exchange price, with thinner liquidity and potential adjustments when the stock market reopens.

Mochatrade has raised $5.5 million, with backers including CoinFund, Y Combinator, Coinbase Ventures and Zero Knowledge Ventures.
