A few years ago, if someone had told two software professionals that they would one day leave their corporate careers to build a farming startup, most people would have dismissed the idea. After all, technology and agriculture rarely cross paths in India’s startup ecosystem.

But for Jaywant Patil and Malvika Gaekwad, the idea of returning to farming was not just a business decision, it was a mission. They believed something simple but powerful: people deserve food that is pure, natural, and traceable to its source. That belief eventually led to the birth of Humpy Farms.

When Corporate Life Lost Its Meaning

Before starting the company, Jaywant Patil spent nearly eight years working in the IT industry. From the outside, everything looked perfect, a stable job, good salary, and a comfortable urban lifestyle. But deep down, he felt disconnected from the impact of his work.

During weekends, he began exploring organic farming. What started as curiosity slowly turned into a deep passion. He began studying soil health, natural fertilizers, and the traditional agricultural methods that Indian farmers had used for generations.

The more he learned, the more he realized something alarming. Modern agriculture had become heavily dependent on chemicals, pesticides, and artificial fertilizers. Food production had become faster, but not necessarily healthier.

That realization planted the seed of a much bigger idea.

A Shared Vision

Around the same time, Malvika Gaekwad was also on a similar journey.

She had studied information technology and worked as a software engineer in Pune. Yet she felt something missing in the corporate world.

In 2013, she began practicing organic farming as a hobby. What started as weekend farming soon turned into a deeper exploration of how food is grown and distributed in India. Malvika noticed a major problem: farmers were often underpaid, while consumers were paying high prices for food that wasn’t always pure or natural.

The food supply chain seemed broken.

When Jaywant and Malvika connected, they realized they shared the same vision to reconnect consumers with the farms where their food comes from.

The Birth of Humpy Farms

In 2016, the two entrepreneurs officially launched Humpy Farms. The startup was built around a simple idea: deliver natural, chemical-free food directly from farms to people’s homes.

Instead of relying on long and complicated supply chains, the company adopted a direct-to-consumer (D2C) model, ensuring that customers receive fresh products sourced directly from trusted farms.

One of their key offerings quickly became A2 milk from indigenous Indian cows, which many nutrition experts believe is easier to digest compared to conventional milk produced by hybrid breeds.

Building a Farm-to-Table Ecosystem

While milk became the company’s flagship product, the founders never intended to stop there. Their long-term vision was to create a complete ecosystem of healthy, farm-fresh food.

Over time, Humpy Farms expanded its product range to include:

  • Desi cow A2 milk

  • Organic eggs

  • Bilona ghee

  • Cold-pressed oils

  • Organic grains and pulses

  • Natural honey and spices

Every product followed the same principle: natural production with minimal processing.

Supporting Farmers Along the Way

What makes Humpy Farms different from many food brands is its deep connection with farmers.

The company works closely with farmers and trains them in organic and regenerative farming practices. This helps improve soil health while reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.

By creating a fair supply chain, farmers receive better compensation for their produce, making organic farming more sustainable as a livelihood. In this way, every product sold by Humpy Farms becomes part of a larger effort to improve the agricultural ecosystem.

Investor Interest and Company Valuation

As the demand for organic and farm-fresh products grew in India, investors began to notice the potential of the startup.

Humpy Farms raised around ₹5 crore in funding from well-known investors, including Peyush Bansal and Ghazal Alagh. The funding helped the company strengthen its supply chain, expand its farmer network, and improve its technology infrastructure.

Following this investment round, the company was estimated to have a valuation of around ₹27 crore. The startup has also shown strong business growth, generating nearly ₹14–15 crore in annual revenue in recent years. Although the company is still investing heavily in expansion and scaling operations, these numbers reflect the rising demand for organic food and farm-fresh dairy products among Indian consumers.

Technology Meets Traditional Farming

Even though the founders left their IT careers, technology still plays an important role in the company.

Digital tools are used to track farm data, maintain supply chain transparency, and ensure quality control across products. Customers can also order products through the company’s digital platforms, making it easy to access farm-fresh food in urban areas.

In this way, Humpy Farms blends traditional agricultural wisdom with modern technology.

A Mission Bigger Than Business

Today, Humpy Farms represents more than just a food brand. It stands for a growing movement in India, one that focuses on clean food, sustainable farming, and transparency in agriculture.

In a world where industrial farming and processed foods dominate supermarket shelves, startups like Humpy Farms remind consumers that the future of food may actually lie in returning to nature. What started as a passion project by two IT professionals has slowly grown into a farm-to-table movement.

And for many health-conscious consumers across India, Humpy Farms is helping answer a simple but important question:

Where does our food really come from?
