What Does Gravity Do?
Gravity is building a technology and operating platform for interior materials.
Its primary customers include architects, interior designers, modular showrooms and design-and-build studios.
The idea is to make it easier for these professionals to source materials from a fragmented network of dealers, distributors and category-specific suppliers. Gravity aims to improve pricing visibility, product availability and fulfilment through a more integrated operating system.
The startup currently brings together specialist businesses in the kitchen and wardrobe segments and provides shared capabilities across:
Technology
Procurement
Distribution
Key-account management
Customer service
Operations
Why Did Gravity Raise $15 Million?
Gravity plans to use the funding across four major areas.
Technology and Distribution
The startup will strengthen its technology platform and distribution network as it expands its operations across India.
Expansion Into New Categories
Gravity plans to move beyond kitchens and wardrobes into adjacent categories such as doors and windows, lighting, wall surfaces and home automation.
Key-Account Infrastructure
The company will build its capabilities for serving professional buyers such as design studios, architects and modular showrooms.
Brand Building and Working Capital
Part of the capital will also support brand development and working-capital requirements as the business scales.
What Categories Will Gravity Enter Next?
Gravity's expansion strategy goes beyond its current kitchen and wardrobe focus.
The company has identified categories including:
Doors and windows
Lighting
Wall and surface materials
Home automation
Other interior systems
The objective is to use the same technology, distribution and customer relationships across multiple categories instead of building separate operating systems for each one.
What Is Next for Gravity?
The immediate focus for Gravity is expanding its technology and distribution infrastructure while growing its presence in the interior materials ecosystem.
Its longer-term strategy is to build a broader platform covering multiple interior-material categories and serve the businesses that influence material selection and procurement.
The latest funding gives Gravity capital to expand beyond its initial kitchen and wardrobe focus while developing the infrastructure needed to operate across a wider range of home-interior products.
