After spending years in the education field and working with many Edtech companies like Physics Wallah and Akash, Kirti Prakash Mishra realized a gap where students still didn't get personalised assistance for their doubts and queries, according to their requirements.
When large language models (LLMs) went mainstream, Kirti Prakash Mishra saw a solution.
Rather than creating another chatbot, he emphasized creating an AI tool that makes lessons personalised for students according to their requirements and understanding. He was developing the idea when he was working at Physics Wallah, but then he thought that he needed to part ways and start fresh.
Building from 2024 and officially launched YoLearn in January 2025 alongside co-founder Vishal Kashyap. The full product took about a year and a half to develop.
Today, the company runs a 23-person team out of Noida and has raised $200,000 through a series of angel rounds over the past few months.
Built Different, By Design
Instead of layering a chat interface on top of an existing model, YoLearn has fine-tuned subject-specific models using its own proprietary datasets, including real voice conversations and open-source teacher-student dialogue data. The goal is a system that reasons more like an actual tutor than a search engine with a friendly tone.
One of the most technical choices is the integration of knowledge graphs in MCP (Model Context Protocol) connectors. According to the company, this model hadn't been used elsewhere. The idea is to give tutors a comprehensive knowledge data set and depth of adaptability and breadth of subject knowledge, so it can hold a genuinely conversational teaching session rather than a scripted Q&A.
The most different approach about this startup is that this platform isn't only made for students, but teachers can also leverage its knowledge data set, like lesson planning, grading, and content creation, alongside an "AI Co-Teacher Avatar" designed to sit alongside human teachers, helping with homework support and doubt resolution.
How the Business Actually Works
Yo learns works on a pay-as-you-go model. Basic chat is free, but live audio or video tutoring sessions, flashcard generators, and podcast-style content consume tokens that users purchase after an initial free allotment runs out. Depending on how much time the student spends on the platform. Monthly spend can range from 479 INR to 9,571 INR. There's no flat subscription fee.
The go-to-market strategy is sequenced deliberately: First, win Gen-Z users through social media, then expand the tool to individual teachers, and then finally move to the B2B market like schools. The company is still in beta, but has already signed on 12 B2B clients and built a base of around 4,000 active consumer users.
A Crowded Field, But an Empty Center
Plenty of global players are in the market, like Khanmigo, CK-12 Flexi, and Duolingo; AI Guru from PhysicsWallah and Siqiq.ai in India. But according to Kirti Prakash Mishra, none of them provide a full package of emotionally attuned tutors who can adapt in real time and can genuinely stand in for or exceed a human teacher's touch.
A product built on real-time audio-video interactions, visual sketchpad explanations, and foundations of learning through AI in real time. That's the gap YoLearn is aiming to close.
Mishra is candid about who he sees as the real competition, and it isn't other ed-tech startups. It's the frontier models themselves: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini. YoLearn bets that the winning product won't be the most powerful raw model, but the layer that makes that intelligence feel human enough to actually teach.
