JioShield Launched by Jio: Check Price, Features, Benefits, App and How It Works

Reliance Jio has launched JioShield, a new family safety and parental control solution designed to help parents stay connected with their children while managing their digital activity. The service combines location tracking, SOS alerts, screen-time controls, app management and contact controls through two connected applications.

JioShield has been introduced as part of Jio's 10th anniversary initiatives. The service costs ₹1000 for 1 year. Eligible customers can also receive Jio recharge vouchers worth ₹1000 under the anniversary offer.

What Is JioShield?

JioShield is a child safety and digital parenting solution from Reliance Jio. It connects the child's smartphone with a parent's phone so that parents can monitor selected safety information and manage certain aspects of the child's phone usage.

The system works through two apps:

Once the two phones are paired, parents can access features such as location updates, SOS alerts, screen-time management, app controls and contact whitelisting.

JioShield Price in India

The JioShield price is ₹1000 for one year. The amount is paid as a one-time enrolment fee rather than as a monthly subscription.

This works out to approximately ₹83 per month when the annual price is divided across 12 months.

As part of Jio's 10th anniversary offer, eligible customers receive ₹1,000 worth of Jio recharge vouchers. The vouchers are provided as 10 vouchers of ₹100 each and can be redeemed against eligible Jio prepaid recharges of ₹399 or above on unlimited 5G plans.

JioShield Features: What Can Parents Do?

According to Jio, JioShield combines physical safety features with digital parental controls.

1. Real-Time Location and Location History

Parents can check their child's near real-time location through JioThings. Jio also provides 30-day location history and a one-tap location refresh option.

This can help parents know where their child is when they are travelling to school, tuition classes or other places.

2. SOS Alerts

The JioShield SOS alert feature allows a child to send an emergency alert. The parent receives the alert along with the child's location so they can respond when assistance may be required.

3. Geo-Fencing

Parents can create designated safe zones, such as home or school. JioShield can then alert parents when the child enters or leaves these locations.

4. Screen-Time Control

JioShield includes screen-time management tools. Parents can set daily limits for device usage, after which the device can automatically lock when the allotted time is exhausted.

This feature is intended to help families manage children's smartphone usage and create a balance between digital activities and other activities.

5. App Management

Parents can decide which apps their child can access. Apps that have not been approved remain locked.

This gives parents greater control over the applications available on the child's smartphone.

6. Contact Whitelisting

The contact control feature allows parents to approve contacts from whom their child can receive calls.

According to Jio, outgoing call and message blocking features are listed as coming soon, so users should not assume that all communication controls are currently available.

7. Low-Battery Alerts

JioShield can notify parents when the child's phone battery is running low. This can be useful because a dead phone can prevent location updates or communication during an important situation.

8. Buzz Phone

The Buzz Phone feature allows parents to remotely ring the child's phone to help locate it, including when the phone is on silent.

9. Safety Call

JioThings also provides a Safety Call feature that allows the parent to call from the child's number and hear what is happening around the child, according to Jio's service information.

How Does JioShield Work?

JioShield works by pairing the child's smartphone with the parent's smartphone.

The basic setup process is:

  1. Choose an eligible Jio plan for the parent's Jio number.

  2. Download and set up the JioThings app on the parent's phone.

  3. Install the JioShield app on the child's Android phone.

  4. Register using the required Jio numbers.

  5. Enter the child's details and verify the OTP.

  6. Pair the two devices.

After successful pairing, parents can manage the available safety and parental-control features through JioThings.
