Lotus Lampshades: Personalised Lampshades that Spark your Interest

Owing to the pandemic, advanced tools, remote working and creating became more widely accepted in the last decade. In today’s modern world, one rarely has to leave the confines of one's home to build a professional career or pursue a passionate hobby. But the place one inhabits plays a pivotal role in one's functioning. As the pandemic loomed over us, we realised the importance of creating safe, warm spaces that reflected our personalities or felt like a piece of us.  Lotus Lampshades play an important role in helping personalise your space creatively.

With close to 30 years of experience, Lotus Lampshades has created a unique range of customisable table lamps designed primarily for corporate gifting. Over the years, they’ve built credibility in this space and are serving some of India's leading retail chains, luxury five-star hotels, lighting brands, and prestigious interior projects.

Birthing a Lampshade Company:

Amit, the founder of Lotus Lampshades, confesses to having an artistic side from a tender age. However, after his B.Com, he worked in a software consultancy firm for a year. Yet the lack of satisfaction and the desire to marry art and business never left him, and he soon got into business creating customised lampshades. He stresses that these elegant lamps can be personalised to reflect your brand identity, making them meaningful gifts that leave a lasting impression on clients, employees, and business associates.

But a product is more than the brand label that goes on it. It’s the people behind the scenes who work tirelessly, often without any recognition, to bring it to life. Lotus Lampshades employ rural women artisans, creating sustainable livelihoods while preserving traditional craftsmanship.

Thus, Amit likes to elaborate on the true ethos of the company.

‘Each lamp is not just a beautifully crafted product. It is a story of empowerment, dedication, and social impact.’

Inspiration and Advice:

The seeds of inspiration were sown after a seemingly simple incident. He needed light that was confined to a particular place and tried making something out of cardboard vaguely resembling a lampshade. The response to the limited circle he showed it to was encouraging, so he started working on creating different products, slowly getting into different shopping destinations such as Westside, Shopper’s Stop, HyperCity, among others.

However, later on, they would pivot to completely customisable products that were made only when someone would place a specific order. When asked about the struggle, he suggested that coming up with new designs and ideas, looking for ways to refine their product, and marketing were constant challenges, especially in the early phases. That said, Amit recalls all the customers, the 20-year-old dreamy-eyed kids who purchase and suggest these lampshades for their loved ones, the international tourists overawed by their beauty and the employees who feel a sense of belonging when their company gifts them one of these.

When asked for his advice, he suggested that one should start whatever they like, but have patience to see results. In a quirky comparison, he mentioned that business success is unlike instant noodles, where you can see the effects on the same day. It takes time and perseverance, but he still feels like people should get into entrepreneurship so that they can be employers instead of employees, helping in job creation and a vibrant economy.
